Hailing from Bahrain, Hind Matar began her life in fashion studying at Central St. Martins in London. Since launching MATAR’s inaugural collection in Spring Summer 2014 Hind has continued to push the bounds of global glamour with each season incorporating bold textures and colors with a quietly seductive but intrinsic femininity that is paradigm to her work. Her collections are intricately woven landscapes that speak to her family’s illustrious legacy in the Middle Eastern pearl trade, ancient cultural history and her own nomadic life.
Diving deeper into the exploration of her ancestral heritage has expanded her brand vision to include a fine jewelry collection, which will launch in September 2017 at US Protagonists event in NYC hosted by Italian Vogue. It will celebrate the aesthetic and tradition of Arab culture combined with organic modern nuances.
In 2015 Hind was commissioned by the the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities to design a capsule collection for the Bahrain Pavilion at the Milan Expo which won the Silver Medal for best Pavilion Design. That same year MATAR was also the winner of the Cadillac Design Challenge Fashion Prize. The award merits innovation and celebrates leading womenswear designers from the Middle East.
